Ask a Park Ranger…Can you reserve the BBQ?

As a Park Ranger that spends a lot of time on weekends out in the parklands with our lovely visitors, I am often asked quite similar questions. Each month, I am going to share with you one of these questions and the accurate answer.

So today, I am starting with the most common and sometimes controversial — Can you reserve the BBQ?

Sydney Olympic Park has a number of BBQs scattered conveniently throughout the parklands and they are designed to be shared by all our visitors.

Here is my advice to ensure a happy and enjoyable experience for all:

  1. Use it when you need it – you cannot mind a BBQ for later in the day, so go enjoy the parklands and come back when you are ready to eat
  2. You may have to wait – if the BBQ is being used, wait patiently for your turn, you may even make friends with other Sydneysiders as you have a yarn while waiting
  3. Cook your food then move on –when you’re done cooking and cleaning take your food and enjoy your BBQ with friends or family away from the BBQ facilities, so others can have their turn
  4. Be courteous – really all of this just comes down to being courteous of others, recognise that these facilities are there for the enjoyment of everyone!
