This year at the 2014 Sydney Royal Easter Show, Agricultural Education has entered the digital age. Through a program partnership between the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW and Sydney Olympic Park Authority’s Education team, students from around Australia and overseas have been brought into the heart of Australia’s largest event.
How does it work?
It’s called a Google Hangout, using web video technology to provide a live-streamed interactive program.
The best way to describe it, is actually, just to let you see it in action:
Two Google Hangouts ran during the Sydney Royal Easter Show to showcase Agriculture covering topics such as food security, Australian fresh produce, farming challenges, agriculture careers and study pathways.
These Google Hangouts were a first for the Sydney Royal Easter Show and are a credit to the commitment of the Royal Agricultural Society’s team and their willingness to trial education technologies to engage students near and far in partnership with Sydney Olympic Park Authority.
A big thank you to those that presented and shared their passion of agriculture on the Google Hangouts including students from across different New South Wales schools, Doctor Parvez from the University of Western Sydney, Ben Goodex a Woolworths’ Agronomist and Mr Peter Ward from AusVeg.
