As we welcome home our Australian Winter Paralympic Team from the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games and the success of Toby Kane and Jessica Gallager receiving their well-earned bronze medals, we thought we would share with you the unique treat students from across Australia enjoyed up close and personal with Chef de Mission Chris Nunn.
In fact over 500 students and their teachers from 19 Australian schools, including 7 schools from NSW, were linked directly to Chef de Mission Chris Nunn in a ‘Sochi.ru Ready’ interactive video conference live from Sydney Olympic Park. Chris is a High Performance coach with specialist expertise gained over three decades and six Paralympic Games.
Using interactive software Chris showed the students where Sochi was on a world map, shared photos of the team and explained the special equipment used by athletes with a disability.
Students were inspired by the Paralympic athlete stories, asking candid questions of Chris about how the modified sports worked and how athletes overcame the challenges they faced with their disability.
The power and value of virtual excursions like ‘Sochi.ru Ready’ was reflected in warm feedback from teachers and program partners:
