Sydney Showground expansion on track

The Royal Agricultural Society (RAS) of New South Wales is currently underway with construction of a new exhibition hall on its Sydney Showground site that will add approximately 10,000m² of multi-purpose event space due to be completed in advance of the 2014 Sydney Royal Easter Show.

The project is being undertaken due to overwhelming demand for space by exhibition and event organisers whose appetite to locate their events at Sydney Showground has grown significantly in recent times.

Sydney Showground has already secured over 12 major events partly due to the expansion of facilities and closure of the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre at Darling Harbour.  Joining the already growing portfolio of events and exhibitions to be held at Sydney Showground in 2014 will be:

  • Sydney Home Show
  • Mind Body & Spirit Festival
  • Fitness Show
  • Australia’s premier IT conference and exhibition CeBIT
  • The highly popular annual Good Food and Wine Show

Works are running to schedule and to date have involved demolition and capping of redundant services, piling, steel reinforcement and concreting for structural columns, installation of in ground services and commencement of erection of the steel frame.

The new facility will feature a range of environmentally sustainable design initiatives, which is in keeping with other new developments at Sydney Olympic Park.

The RAS is providing regular updates and have some images of the construction on their website {link to}.

A big thank you to Peter, Maureen and Jonathan for sharing this post!
